July 30 – According to the French newspaper ‘Le Parisien,’ Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe has recently acquired a majority stake in French Ligue 2 club Caen for less than €20 million, officially becoming the club’s owner.
According to the report, Mbappe will be assuming a part of the club’s debt. He will replace the investment fund Oaktree Capital, which acquired 80% of Caen’s shares in 2020, as the club’s majority shareholder.
French media have analyzed Mbappe’s decision to acquire Caen, noting that he initially considered joining the club as a youth player and beginning his career there. He ultimately chose AS Monaco in 2013 but had always considered Caen a potential destination.
The media further reports that Mbappe will place a trusted figure in charge of the club. Ziad Hamad, former Strategic and Investment Director for the BeIN Media Group and current CEO of Kylian Mbappe’s image company, will take over as club president.
