The latest report revealed that the Algerian international was diagnosed with heart disease, and he is contemplating retirement. Further updates from the publication suggest that the surgery went very well. A pacemaker was implanted to stabilize his heart activity. However, despite the successful surgery, the French Football Federation advised Bentaleb to consider retirement due to the incident.
His contract with Lille runs until 2026, and he needs to find a solution in communication with the insurance company. The Lille midfielder is still under observation in the hospital and may return home this week.
Bentaleb came up through Lille’s youth academy, joining Tottenham Hotspur’s youth team in 2012. In 2017, he signed for Schalke 04. He returned to his former club last summer. Additionally, he has made 66 appearances for the Algerian national team.
