According to renowned journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic, Marseille have reached an agreement with Manchester United for the transfer of Mason Greenwood, with a total fee of €31.6 million. The transfer is now pending the player’s approval.
The report states that if the transfer is completed, Marseille will pay Manchester United a fixed transfer fee of €27.6 million (approximately £23.3 million), with an additional €4 million (approximately £3.4 million) in add-ons. Furthermore, Manchester United will receive a substantial percentage of any future sale of Greenwood by Marseille.
However, recently, Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan, when asked about the transfer, said: “Greenwood’s actions are indescribable and unacceptable. He beat up his girlfriend… The images I saw shocked me. To treat one’s girlfriend in this way, he doesn’t deserve to be a man. He won’t get a place in Marseille. Marseille has its own values, and we won’t tolerate violence against women. I will ask the president of Marseille not to sign Greenwood.”
