On August 17th, Lionel Messi’s mansion on the Spanish island of Ibiza was severely damaged by a group of environmental activists who spray painted the property. Messi has since filed a lawsuit against the activists, seeking €50,000 in damages.
Last week, members of a Spanish environmental organization arrived at Messi’s Ibiza home and vandalized it with red and black paint, alongside slogans that read: “Save the planet, eat the rich, abolish the police.”
The mansion, valued at €11 million, was targeted by the environmentalists who claim that it is an illegal construction in violation of environmental laws.
Messi’s legal team has filed a lawsuit against the group of activists involved in the vandalism, accusing them of criminal damage and seeking €50,000 in damages.
However, a spokesperson for the environmental group disagreed with Messi’s claim about the amount of compensation: “The spray paint will come off with water, just wipe it off. Even repainting won’t cost €50,000.”
