Chicago Fire officially announced today that they have reached an agreement with Shaqiri to terminate his contract early after mutual consultation.
Shaqiri joined Chicago Fire in 2022 for a fee of €7 million. In the two years he played for the team, he has been plagued by injuries, and his attendance and performance have not met expectations. The former Swiss international has played 75 games for Chicago Fire (63 starts), scoring 16 goals and providing 20 assists.
In an interview, Shaqiri said: “I believe now is the right time for me to explore new opportunities in my career. I thank the club and the fans for their support, and I wish Chicago Fire all the best in the future.”
