Fletcher had signed his last professional contract with Bath City. In 2022, during a match in England’s sixth tier, he collided with an advertising board on the sidelines, resulting in a head injury and a brief period of unconsciousness. He was rushed to the hospital where he was diagnosed with a fractured skull.

After a nine-month recovery period, Fletcher was able to return to amateur football in October of last year. However, recently, he took to social media to announce his decision to retire early.

Fletcher wrote: “It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce that it is a dream too far for me to continue playing football. I’m very sorry. I always felt I owed it to myself to come back, and this was the fuel that drove me through my recovery. Once I was back out there, I realised there was something missing. The head injury has left me with lasting issues around my balance, timing, and coordination.”
