On July 28, former Argentina international Martín Demichelis will no longer be the head coach of River Plate.
River Plate club announced that, by mutual agreement, Demichelis will no longer be the head coach of the team. In an announcement posted on their social media, the club stated that the decision was “mutually agreed upon”, and Demichelis will not leave immediately, but will coach the team until Sunday’s game against Sarmiento before leaving.
The official River Plate statement stated: “After joint agreement with the club’s top management, Martín Demichelis has resigned from his position as head coach. He will lead the team in their final game this Sunday. River Plate club thanks Demichelis for his great professionalism, dedication, and respect for the jersey, as well as his three championship trophies. At the same time, we wish him and his coaching staff all the best in their future careers. Thank you, Martín.”
Demichelis, 43, played as a defender during his playing career, having played for Manchester City and Bayern Munich. As a coach, Demichelis coached Bayern Munich’s youth academy. On November 16, 2022, he became the head coach of River Plate. He led the team in 86 games, winning 51, drawing 18, and losing 17, winning one league title and two domestic cup titles.
