The race for the England manager’s job is still wide open, but former Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp believes Eddie Howe is in a strong position to land the role.
Redknapp said on talkSPORT: “It would be a good move for Howe and I think he’ll eventually get the job, I’d like to see an Englishman get the job. It’s a difficult decision for him because he’s doing so well at Newcastle. He’s a straight-laced type of guy and I know him well because I managed him.”
“I keep an eye on him and he was talking to me the other day about management, so maybe he’s got a bit of an itch. He lives two minutes from my house, so it would be a home job for him, but a great job. It’s hard for any manager to turn down a job managing their country.”
“So I think if England come in for him, he’ll find it hard to say no. I can’t see Gerrard or Lampard getting the job. They haven’t got great managerial CVs.”
