Liverpool U19 Withdraw from Friendly Match Due to Alleged Racial Abuse, Frankfurt Side Claims Misunderstanding

According to Bild, Liverpool U19 withdrew from a friendly match against Frankfurt U19 after a player allegedly suffered racial abuse from the opposing team.

Following the alleged incident, Liverpool U19 decided to abandon the match, which was tied at 1-1. However, Frankfurt denied any racist behavior. The player in question used the slang term “digga”, which translates to “brother” or “mate”, and may have been misinterpreted by the Liverpool U19 player.

Frankfurt’s sporting director said: “Frankfurt is a multicultural city, we have clear values, racism has no place here. Our player confirms he used the word ‘digga’ in the normal course of the game, which is common in youth slang. We have no doubt that this statement is correct. We can rule out racism, it was a language problem, and so we hope we have also cleared up the misunderstanding with the player in question and those responsible at Liverpool Football Club.”
