England legend Harry Redknapp has published a column in the Sun, discussing the next manager of the England national team, and he is backing Gerrard and Lampard, believing that the duo have the ability to manage the Three Lions.
Redknapp said: “The FA seem to be looking at Eddie Howe or Graham Potter to replace Southgate. They probably haven’t even considered Gerrard or Lampard, but they are capable of doing the job for England.”
Redknapp then spoke about the duo’s coaching records: “Lampard took Chelsea to the FA Cup final in his first season and finished fourth to qualify for the Champions League. He kept Everton up when they were in turmoil. Gerrard won the Scottish Premiership with Rangers undefeated, their first league title in 10 years, which was huge. People seem to have forgotten what Gerrard did at Rangers, they only remember his time at Aston Villa.”
Redknapp went on to talk about the duo’s advantages: “Both Gerrard and Lampard would command respect from the players and the fans. If you’re going to rule them out because of a few bad experiences, you’ll never find the right manager for England. Both of them were leaders who stepped up when England needed them and that’s the kind of character you need to be England manager.”
