West Bromwich midfielder Jason Molumby was sent off after punching an opponent during a friendly match against Mallorca.
Molumby was involved in a heated exchange with Mallorca player Samuel Costa after being the victim of a reckless tackle during the behind-closed-doors warm-up match on Saturday afternoon. After a verbal altercation, Costa appeared to raise his arm, leading to Molumby retaliating with a punch before the pair grappled, prompting stunned teammates to intervene.
The incident took place in the 40th minute, and the referee decided to bring an early end to the first half. Molumby didn’t feature in the second half. Despite the match being held behind closed doors at West Bromwich’s training ground, thousands watched the footage after Spanish radio coverage. West Bromwich eventually lost the game 0-1, with David López scoring the winning goal in the second half.
