Canadian Women’s Soccer Defender: We’re Well Aware of the Olympic Spirit, We’re Not Cheaters

Prior to the opening group game, the Canadian women’s soccer team was caught using a drone to film their opponents’ training session. Following the incident, the Canadian Olympic Committee released a statement announcing that head coach Priestman had been removed from the team, pending an investigation by an independent panel.

Commenting on the scandal, Giles said: “Honestly, it’s been really tough. As players, we feel a lot of frustration and shame because it doesn’t align with our values and it doesn’t align with being an Olympian.”

“The Olympics are about competing fairly. As Canadians, cheating isn’t in our values. We’re not cheaters. It’s been very difficult, but we know how to stay together as a team.”

“It’s up to us to stay united now, to not let social media affect our mindset.”
