On July 23, according to a report from Beijing Youth Daily, the Chinese national team will adopt a principle of frugality and simplicity for their away matches in the Asian Cup qualifiers.
Media reports state that although the national team will travel to Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain for away matches during the Asian Cup qualifiers, the Chinese Football Association has no plans to arrange chartered flights for the team. Whether in China or during preparations and matches abroad, the Chinese team will strictly adhere to relevant financial regulations. Typically, the team management will assign rooms for the national players based on a “two players per room” standard during training and competitions.
Similar to the previous World Cup qualifiers, the Chinese Football Association has not made arrangements for chartered flights to host countries for the national team’s participation in the Asian Cup qualifiers. In fact, the association’s arrangement of chartered flights for some of the national team’s away matches during the previous World Cup qualifiers was due to unavoidable and compelling circumstances. However, chartered flights incur significant expenses, and given the current state of Chinese football, the Chinese Football Association is unlikely to make similar arrangements.
Beyond travel arrangements, the Chinese team will also adhere to the principles of “simplicity” and frugality in other aspects of logistical support for the Asian Cup qualifiers. For example, currently, apart from head coach Ivanković, who is entitled to (per agreement) travel in business class, the remaining team members will only be able to fly in economy class. Whether playing at home or traveling abroad, the national team will not be booking entire hotels. However, for safety reasons, all team members’ rooms are likely to be concentrated on certain floors within the hotel. The team will generally assign rooms to players based on a “two players per room” standard. If players wish to have single rooms, they will have to pay the difference in room rates out of their own pockets.
