Official: CONCACAF U-20 Men’s Championship Group A Teams Change City Due to Murder of Police Outside Hotel

On July 25, the 2024 CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship (CONCACAF U-20) was being held in Mexico, but due to a security incident at the hotel of the participating teams in the host city of Celaya, the Mexican Football Federation announced that it would adjust the remaining game venues.

The Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) announced today schedule and venue changes for the 2024 CONCACAF Men’s U-20 Championship.

The regional men’s U-20 World Cup qualifier began on July 19 in Irapuato and Celaya, Mexico, featuring 12 member associations.

Following a security incident outside a team hotel in Celaya, and out of an abundance of caution and to ensure the best experience for all participating teams and fans, CONCACAF, in coordination with the Mexican Football Federation, decided to relocate the remaining matches to Irapuato (Sergio León Chávez Stadium) and León (León Stadium), with Celaya no longer hosting any further matches.

In addition, CONCACAF has rescheduled the Group A matches originally scheduled for Friday, July 26, to Saturday, July 27, which will allow the four teams to relocate from Celaya to León.

These decisions were made in coordination with the Mexican Football Federation and local authorities.
