In the men’s category, Messi came in first, Ronaldo second, and the 3rd to 5th places went to Henry, Zidane and Modric respectively. In the women’s category, Brazilian legend Marta, now 38, came in first. She will also be participating in the Paris Olympics. Bonmati and Putellas ranked second and third respectively.
In ESPN’s comments on Messi, they cited Ronaldo’s words: “I saw Brazilian fans cheering for Messi. For a genius who marked an era, it’s a fitting end.”
