According to The Sun, Portsmouth striker Colby Bishop suffered a heart attack during the team’s pre-season preparations and will undergo surgery.
The 27-year-old, who was a primary school teacher before joining the Championship side, has missed all of Pompey’s pre-season friendlies so far. He and his wife welcomed their first child earlier this month. Reacting to the setback, Bishop said: “This is an uncertain time for myself, my wife and my new baby. I’m very grateful to a team of world-class doctors for the groundbreaking treatment I’ve been receiving. I also want to thank Portsmouth Football Club for their ongoing support. I’m looking forward to getting back on the pitch and playing in front of you all soon.”
Last season, Portsmouth returned to the Championship after a 12-year absence. Bishop scored 20 goals for John Mousinho’s side, a key contributor to their League One title win. The club signed him for a paltry £500,000.
