According to The Athletic, Saudi Arabia has unveiled an ambitious bid for the 2034 World Cup, including plans to build 11 new stadiums, one of which will be located 350 meters in the air.
FIFA has already released Saudi Arabia’s bid for the 2034 World Cup, which includes five host cities: Riyadh, Jeddah, Al Khobar, Abha, and the new city of Neom, located on the Red Sea coastline, currently under construction.
For the 2034 World Cup, Saudi Arabia is expected to invest in 15 stadiums, including eight in the capital city of Riyadh, including the planned King Salman Stadium, which will have a capacity of 92,000 spectators. The stadium is planned to be the venue for the opening and closing ceremonies of the World Cup, and will become the home stadium of the Saudi national team.
The most spectacular of the 11 new stadiums is the Neom Stadium, which will be located 350 meters in the air and will be powered entirely by renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power. The project is expected to be completed in 2032.
Currently, Saudi Arabia is the only country bidding for the 2034 World Cup, making it highly likely that they will eventually win the bid.
