According to British media outlet Reuters, Saudi Arabia’s sports authority plans to build a massive stadium in Riyadh that can hold 92,000 spectators, as part of its bid to host the 2034 World Cup.
The report states that the Saudi Sports Authority has approved the massive plan. According to further information from the Saudi Press Agency (SPA), the super-sized stadium will be completed in the fourth quarter of 2029. Once operational, the stadium will serve as the home ground for the Saudi national team and will form part of a sports complex. The facility will include an Olympic-size swimming pool, an indoor stadium, and facilities for other sports. The stadium will be named after King Salman of Saudi Arabia.
Currently, six design firms from different countries have submitted their designs based on meeting FIFA requirements, sustainability and excellence building standards. In March this year, Saudi Arabia launched its campaign to host the 2034 World Cup. Currently, Saudi Arabia is the only bidder and is almost certain to be awarded the 2034 World Cup.
