According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, new Milan manager Paulo Fonseca is continuing to experiment with attacking formations. Christian Pulisic will play as the attacking midfielder in the new system.
Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Fonseca’s 4-2-3-1 formation is similar to the one used by Stefano Pioli, but Fonseca wants Milan to be more attacking and aggressive. The pre-season victories over Real Madrid and Manchester City are positive signs for the club. Winger Samuel Chukwueze is one of the standout players in pre-season and is expected to continue to start on the right side.
Last season, Pioli played Pulisic on the right, Rafael Leao on the left, Olivier Giroud as the central striker, and Ruben Loftus-Cheek as the attacking midfielder. However, this attacking combination is likely to be reshuffled. Fonseca prefers Pulisic as the attacking midfielder and Chukwueze on the right wing. Loftus-Cheek is expected to be deployed as a defensive midfielder and contribute more defensively.
