According to Football News, the Chinese Football Association (CFA) has included the presence of a professional football stadium as a crucial consideration in selecting home cities.
The CFA has confirmed the first two home venues for the 18th round qualifiers: Dalian’s Soshuwan Football Stadium and Qingdao’s Youth Football Stadium. The CFA explained its selection process, emphasizing that apart from basic infrastructure, three main factors were taken into account: first, the national team’s travel logistics; second, climate conditions; and third, the stadium’s capacity to accommodate fans and create a vibrant home atmosphere. Consequently, Dalian and Qingdao, with their cooler climates and professional football stadiums, have been chosen as the first two home venues for the Chinese national team.
Regarding other cities’ applications, Football News reported: “Currently, there are numerous professional stadiums in China, including Xi’an, Beijing, and Chengdu. Xi’an, despite having a professional stadium, has not submitted a bid. The national team previously considered playing in Xi’an but ultimately decided against it, resulting in significant losses. Therefore, even if Xi’an were to bid, it would face significant challenges. Chengdu has expressed interest in hosting the national team’s October matches. However, there were some issues during the national team’s previous matches in Chengdu, which require reflection. If they demonstrate a strong commitment and robust security measures, there’s a possibility of future matches in Chengdu. Beijing has submitted bids for specific matches, proposing the National Stadium and Workers’ Stadium. Workers’ Stadium, being a large professional football stadium, is a popular choice among fans. Chongqing has also submitted a bid, but its large professional stadium has not yet hosted major football events. Xiamen’s venue is a convertible stadium suitable for both athletics and football, but unlike dedicated professional football stadiums, the main stand is relatively far, similar to the Shanghai Stadium.”
In conclusion, Football News states that theoretically, most of China’s men’s national team matches will be held in professional stadiums. However, non-professional stadiums also have their advantages. The national team may consider non-professional stadiums for the 36th round qualifiers, such as Tianjin and Shenyang, as they offer a strong home atmosphere and proven experience, having passed the test.
