Canadian women’s hockey captain Marie-Philip Poulin posted a message on social media in support of the Canadian women’s soccer team, which has been embroiled in controversy recently.
Poulin wrote:
“Sports are always a rollercoaster, and as athletes, we need to build strong character to face challenges. I’m blown away by the resilience of the Canadian women’s soccer team today. Despite facing adversity, they regrouped, came together, and never stopped believing victory was possible. They’ve come out stronger facing challenges. I have the utmost respect for each and every one of them. No matter what happens in their Olympic journey, they’ve already won in my heart.”
Previously, the Canadian women’s soccer team was investigated for their coach’s use of a drone to gather intelligence on the New Zealand women’s soccer team. The coach was sent back to Canada, and the team was docked six points. Despite this, they still managed to qualify for the next round after winning all three of their remaining games, and will now face Germany.
