On August 2, Cristiano Ronaldo, currently playing for Saudi Arabian club Al Nassr, forwarded a promotional video for Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the 2034 World Cup and extended an invitation to the world.
Ronaldo wrote: “An extraordinary global sporting event, inviting the world.”
At the end of last month, the Saudi Arabian Football Federation officially announced that they had submitted their bid documents for the 2034 World Cup to FIFA. As the sole bidder, Saudi Arabia is poised to host the World Cup for the first time in history. They will also become the first country to independently host a 48-team World Cup (the 2026 and 2030 World Cups were co-hosted by multiple countries). The official announcement of the 2034 World Cup host is expected on December 11th.
