The Sun: FA Technical Director Is Old Acquaintance, Ipswich Boss Is Three Lions New Coach Candidate

The FA has initiated the search for a new manager following Gareth Southgate’s resignation, with the three main contenders currently being Eddie Howe, the Newcastle manager, former Chelsea manager Graham Potter, and current England U21 manager Lee Carsley.

However, due to FA Technical Director John McDermott’s background, Ipswich manager Kieran McKenna has emerged as a significant candidate.

McDermott had previously served as a coach and Head of Development at Tottenham Hotspur, where he highly regarded McKenna during his time coaching in the Spurs youth system.

After leaving Tottenham to join Manchester United, McKenna rose through the ranks to become a first-team assistant before achieving back-to-back promotions with Ipswich to return to the Premier League.

It is understood that while the current favorites linked to the England job are all homegrown coaches, the FA has not insisted that the next manager must be British.
