Recently, former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney spoke about his weight-loss tactics during his playing days. Due to his often-unruly diet during the off-season, he needed extreme methods to help him pass the pre-season weigh-ins.
Rooney said in the interview: “I used to hate pre-season, because I’d always come back from the off-season six or seven pounds overweight and I had to do something to get back in shape.”
Fellow Manchester United legend Gary Neville revealed he would do some light training during the off-season, but Rooney responded by saying he didn’t do anything at all, shocking the audience.
Rooney continued: “Usually the day before the first day of pre-season training, I would get in the sauna and ride an exercise bike. Honestly, that night, I would be in my full clothes, sitting in the sauna for 90 minutes. I wouldn’t eat anything, I wouldn’t drink anything.”
