Former FIFA interim president and president of the Confederation of African Football, Issa Hayatou, has died at the age of 77, according to British media BBC.
FIFA president Gianni Infantino expressed his condolences through social media after learning of the news, “I am deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Issa Hayatou, former President of the Confederation of African Football, former FIFA Interim President, FIFA Vice-President and member of the FIFA Council.”
The report stated that Hayatou worked in sports management for a long time as a member of the FIFA Council from 1990 to 2017.
In August 2021, Hayatou was suspended by FIFA for one year after being exposed by French media for illegal player transactions in 2016.
