On August 8, according to media reports, a man suddenly collapsed while playing soccer at a paid soccer field. After resuscitation efforts proved unsuccessful, he died. Recently, the Nanjing Intermediate People’s Court of Jiangsu Province issued a final judgment in this “soccer death compensation case,” ordering the field management and organizers to pay over 260,000 yuan in compensation.
The “Legal Daily” reported that “the Nanjing Intermediate People’s Court of Jiangsu Province recently issued a final judgment in this “soccer death compensation case,” determining that the field operator and event organizer failed to implement basic safety rescue measures and should bear corresponding responsibility. The court also sent a judicial suggestion letter to the Nanjing Municipal Sports Bureau regarding issues discovered during the trial, suggesting that sports venues and fitness facilities should be equipped with basic emergency equipment such as automated external defibrillators (AEDs), emergency medications, etc., to make sports safer.”
The Xuanwu District Court ruled: “Xu Mou neglected self-protection and should bear the main responsibility. The field management and the soccer organizers failed to fulfill their safety obligations after the incident and should bear secondary responsibility. Accordingly, the first instance judgment ordered the two companies to bear 12% and 8% of the compensation liability, respectively, and other compensation such as mental distress relief, totaling over 263,000 yuan.”
