R7 Esportes reports that the São Paulo State Police and Public Ministry suspect that PCC, Brazil’s largest criminal organization, has infiltrated Corinthians’ administration.
Authorities are investigating the partners of President Augusto Melo. Former football director Rubens Gomes spoke on the matter.
Rubens Gomes left Corinthians in May, and last Thursday he said that “organized crime is spreading at Corinthians.” Authorities investigating the VaideBet case claim that the PCC, the largest criminal faction in São Paulo, has entered the Parque São Jorge. A source, citing people who support President Augusto Melo, stated that “there are some suspicious moves.” In the eyes of the police and public authorities, there are three partners of the leader. One of them recently appeared in the news due to the generosity during Augusto’s administration.
Another acts as the president’s right-hand man, taking on a variety of tasks. The third partner is an old target of the police, as he worked at another football club in São Paulo and is suspected of involvement in organized crime. According to sources, he has been helping Augusto make decisions related to professional and grassroots football.
After testifying as a witness in the VaideBet case, Rubão said: “My biggest concern is organized crime at Corinthians. Corinthians is a family club, and we need to be careful about this. If the board doesn’t remove Augusto, the courts will.”
On Monday, the Corinthians Deliberative Council met to discuss the request to impeach Augusto. Board members requested the meeting, outraged by the promise of a 25.2 million reais commission to Alex Cassundé to close the main sponsorship deal with VaideBet. Cassundé recently admitted to the police that he had no role in the deal and did not request any payment.
