Wroclaw, a Polish club, suffered a 3-4 aggregate loss to Swiss side St. Gallen in the third round of the UEFA Conference League qualifiers despite winning the second leg 3-2 at home. Wroclaw is furious with the refereeing decisions and has appealed to UEFA for a replay.
Wroclaw believes the referee, Duje Strukan from Croatia, missed at least one penalty and unfairly sent off three of their players. Bartosz Barda, the club’s sporting director, expressed his anger on social media, stating that he had appealed to UEFA outlining the circumstances and hoping for a replay.
The Wroclaw coaching staff stated that after the match, they attempted to speak with referee Duje Strukan to explain their concerns, but he and his assistants refused to engage in a dialogue, even locking them out of the referee’s room, pushing the coaching staff to the brink of despair. “The referees were against us from the beginning. It’s incredibly disheartening. Nothing about this game was fair.” they said.
Wroclaw were leading 3-1 at halftime, with the aggregate score standing at 3-3. However, in the 77th minute of the second half, Wroclaw’s Petkov received his second yellow card and was sent off. In the 12th minute of stoppage time, Nawel also received a second yellow and was sent off, leaving Wroclaw with nine players.
Subsequently, St. Gallen’s Gobes converted a penalty to make it 2-3 and take a 4-3 lead on aggregate. However, Wroclaw’s Armando Ortiz was sent off after picking up two yellow cards in quick succession, leaving them with eight players. Wroclaw could not recover from this and ultimately lost 3-4 on aggregate.
