Reading CEO banned for 12 weeks and fined £7,000 for illegal betting

Reading chairman Mark Bowen has been banned and fined by the FA for illegal sports betting.

Bowen, 60, was manager of Reading between October 2019 and August 2020. He admitted to 95 illegal bets on football matches, which took place between 19 April 2022 and 14 January 2024, but none of his illegal bets involved Reading matches.

Bowen, who was charged in May this year, was ultimately given a 12-week ban and a £7,000 fine by an independent regulatory commission.

In a 17-year playing career, Bowen played for clubs including Tottenham Hotspur, West Ham and Charlton.
