Former Argentina World Cup winner and former Chilean coach Jorge Borghi spoke about his views on modern football during an interview with TNT.
TNT’s analysis team dissected some major tournaments and concluded that teams in these tournaments lacked offensive prowess.
Borghi responded, “Nowadays, in major tournaments, national teams are prioritizing defense over attack. Many teams deploy what they call three forwards, but these players never truly commit to attacking. Of course, there are even five-forward formations, but these forwards can’t just attack. In modern football, their role is to win back possession in the attacking third. Before the team has possession, these so-called forwards don’t actually have any value in attack.”
His statement was supported by the TNT analysis team, who recalled that in many matches, similar situations occurred where teams that took the lead immediately transitioned to a defensive approach.
