Heng’s Summer Signing Wu Hyunkwi Gets Limited Playing Time, Korean Media Questions His Usage

This summer, Belgian powerhouse KRC Genk acquired Korean forward Wu Hyunkwi from Celtic for €2.7 million, making him the team’s most expensive signing. However, with four rounds of the Belgian Pro League completed, Wu Hyunkwi has only made three substitute appearances, totaling just 24 minutes of playing time. This has prompted Korean media outlet Naver to express their confusion.

Heng’s Summer Signing Wu Hyunkwi Gets Limited Playing Time, Korean Media Questions His Usage

The report highlights that Wu Hyunkwi, despite being Genk’s marquee summer signing, has consistently been underutilized. Genk predominantly employs a 4-3-3 formation, and while Wu Hyunkwi might face competition from the in-form Arokodare for the central striker position, the coach could consider starting him as a winger. Even if he were to be used as a substitute, he shouldn’t be introduced only towards the end of matches, consistently approaching the 90th minute.

Although Wu Hyunkwi had limited opportunities during the second half of last season at Celtic, he had already proven himself in the K League and the South Korean national team. If his current situation doesn’t improve, Wu Hyunkwi should consider a winter transfer, even if it means returning to the K League. It would be a better option than sitting on the bench at Genk.
