PSM Makassar vs Buriram United
PSM Makassar is a veteran club from Indonesia, also one of the most successful clubs in Indonesian football history, having reached the AFC Champions League Quarterfinals. Domestically, PSM Makassar has won the Indonesian League twice, with the last title coming in the 2022/23 season. Last season, PSM Makassar saw significant roster turnover, resulting in a decline in overall strength, ultimately leading to a disappointing 11th place finish.
For the new season, PSM Makassar has strengthened the weak points of their squad, signing 18 new players, including 6 foreign players. Among them, 27-year-old Slovenian striker Harjeta is a key player to watch. He has previously played in the Czech, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Austrian football leagues. In the first two rounds of the new season, Harjeta scored 3 goals, helping the team to two consecutive wins. He will be PSM Makassar’s main attacking force this season.
Compared to PSM Makassar, Buriram United from the Thai League may be more familiar to fans. A regular in the AFC Champions League group stage in recent seasons, Buriram United’s domestic league performance has declined year by year. Since topping the Thai League in 2021 with a 14-point lead, Buriram United has failed to win the title in the past 3 seasons, with their worst performance dropping to 8th place in the league.
Buriram United started the new season with a record of 1 win and 1 loss, suffering a surprising 0-1 defeat to newly promoted side Chonburi at home in their last match, delivering a blow to the home fans. On paper, Buriram United is actually quite strong, with a total market value of €10 million, twice that of PSM Makassar. They have national team players like Supachok Sarachat and Sergeyev in their ranks, and former Qingdao West Coast foreign player Raniel also joined the team this summer, meaning the team is not lacking in attacking power. However, Buriram United’s lackluster performance at the start of the new season is largely due to injuries. Despite their paper strength advantage, they may find it difficult to claim a comfortable victory against PSM Makassar.
