On August 14, 34-year-old Dutch international Daley Blind announced his retirement from the Netherlands national team through his personal social media, ending an 11-year career with the national team.
Blind wrote, “I am honored to have represented the Netherlands national team 108 times. For me, representing the national team is the highest achievement a player can reach. For 11 years, I have done everything I could to continue wearing that beautiful orange shirt. It has brought me many great moments, and I cherish those times.”
Blind also wrote, “However, the time has come for a new generation of players. After a good conversation with the national team coach, it’s time to focus completely on my club and my family.”
Finally, Blind expressed his gratitude once again, “I feel incredibly honored. It has been a great period representing the Netherlands national team. Thanks to the national team coaches, staff, teammates, and of course the Orange Army! I will miss you all. Thank you.”
