Former Argentina national team legend, former River Plate, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Manchester City star, Demichelis, at 43 years old, has joined Mexican club Monterrey as head coach after ending his coaching work at the Bayern youth team and River Plate. At his official unveiling press conference, Demichelis praised his new employers and promised that the team’s goal is to win.
At the press conference, Monterrey club president Tato stated: “Demichelis has had a very successful sporting career, combined with his personality, preparation, rigour and character, we think he is a great fit for the team.” Sporting director Lara added: “Despite having other offers, he decided to come here.”
Demichelis said: “We (the coaching staff) are very excited, we’ve joined a great club, a great team, with great fans. If anything has caught our attention, it’s the desire for victory. I want to thank the players, they are willing to listen to our ideas and have shown great quality, execution and a desire to improve.”
Demichelis noted that winning the league championship is the goal: “The team is constantly evolving, the challenge is to be the protagonist of the league, no matter the opponent, no matter the situation. I love challenges. Every day will be an opportunity for the players to earn their place on the weekend, we come here wanting to take responsibility, wanting to win the league.”
Demichelis brought in 3 assistant coaches, 1 fitness coach, 1 analyst, while keeping two assistants from the previous coaching staff. Speaking about his coaching style, Demichelis stated: “I analyse football in terms of physical, technical, tactical and personality, we will work to build a solid, competitive, proactive team.”
