ESPN: Pochettino Can’t Take Over USMNT Until Chelsea Salary Dispute Is Resolved

It is reported that former U.S. Under-20 national team coach Mikey Varas will temporarily lead the U.S. men’s national team during the upcoming September international window.

Even if Pochettino is officially appointed as head coach of the U.S. men’s national team before the transfer window, Varas will remain in charge, giving Pochettino time to familiarize himself with the U.S. Soccer Federation and the current state of American football.

It is worth mentioning that the dispute between Pochettino and his former club Chelsea is still unresolved. The Blues still owe Pochettino his salary, and he cannot sign a contract to take over the U.S. national team until the issue is resolved.

Sources told ESPN that the two sides have not signed a final agreement, and the U.S. Soccer Federation board has not signed any agreements either. Sources added that a regular board meeting is scheduled for Friday, August 23, but a special meeting could be held before that to finalize the appointment.
