According to Spanish media outlet *Mundo Deportivo*, the Spanish Football Federation has decided to accept the one-match ban imposed by UEFA on Rodri and Morata and will not appeal. The decision was made after consultation with the players and their lawyers.
Following Spain’s European Championship triumph, Morata shouted “The European Championship belongs to Spain, Gibraltar belongs to Spain” during the victory celebrations, with Rodri joining in afterwards.
The video footage went viral and sparked controversy. UEFA subsequently launched a disciplinary investigation and ultimately concluded that Rodri and Morata had violated basic principles of etiquette and damaged the reputation of football and UEFA. As a result, the duo were banned for one match, meaning they will miss Spain’s Nations League match against Serbia on September 5th.
Following the UEFA ban, the legal department of the Spanish Football Federation, in consultation with the players’ lawyers, decided not to appeal.
It’s worth noting that Morata recently sustained an injury and is reportedly expected to be out for three weeks, making an appeal pointless. As for Rodri, he is recovering and should be available for the match against Switzerland on September 9th, provided he is selected, after missing the Serbia clash.
