Swiss Super League club FC Basel officially announced the signing of Shaqiri.
The 32-year-old Shaqiri came through Basel’s youth academy and also played for Bayern Munich, Inter Milan, and other clubs. He spent the past two seasons with Chicago Fire in Major League Soccer. Last week, he officially terminated his contract with the team, becoming a free agent.
This will be Shaqiri’s return to Basel after 12 years. Basel currently sits in 7th place in the Swiss Super League with 6 points. In the next round of league matches, they will host Yverdon at home.
