AFC Champions League Elite League Draw Method: Pseudo-Swiss System with Same Association Teams Avoidance

AFC Champions League Elite League Draw Method: Pseudo-Swiss System with Same Association Teams Avoidance Transfermarkt Zhu Yi updated the draw method for the AFC Champions League Elite League (East Asia) on August 16th: In simple terms, 12 teams will draw their own code, and their opponents in the league stage will be determined according to the match table (Figure 2). The 12 teams are divided into two draw bowls: the first-placed teams of the six associations are in the first draw bowl, and the other teams are in the second draw bowl (Figure 1).

AFC Champions League Elite League Draw Method: Pseudo-Swiss System with Same Association Teams Avoidance The draw starts from the first draw bowl. The first team drawn will be D1, the second will be E1, the third will be F1, the fourth will be D2, the fifth will be E2, and the sixth will be F2. Then, the second draw bowl will be drawn. The first team drawn will be D3 (the top empty number), but according to the match table, if they would meet a team from the same association, they should be avoided and moved to the next number in sequence (such as E3). This continues until all six teams have been drawn. Theoretically, it is similar to the Champions League, a “pseudo-Swiss system”. Each team will play 8 of their 11 opponents, with four home games and four away games. Each team will only face each other once, and teams from the same association will be avoided and will not meet in the league stage. Four teams will be eliminated from the 12, and the top 8 teams will advance to the Round of 16 of the AFC Champions League Elite League.
