The Kolkata Derby was cancelled, but thousands of East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and Mohammedan supporters still flooded the streets. AIFF President Kalyan Chaubey stepped in to intervene and stop Kolkata Police from arresting legally assembled East Bengal and Mohun Bagan fans.
Kalyan Chaubey said: “This is highly shameful. Law and order in West Bengal has completely collapsed. A football match can’t even be played… Look at the police deployment, it’s like a riot is taking place.”
