According to Beiqing Sports, the Chinese men’s national team will conduct its third outdoor training session of this training camp at the Dalian Suoyu Bay Stadium’s auxiliary field on the evening of August 25th.
The report states that after two days of recovery training, the team’s focus will shift towards tactical drills. Due to age and other factors, veteran captain Wu Xi has expressed his inability to return to the team and has stepped aside for younger players. Therefore, the national team coaching staff, led by head coach Ivanković, will consciously look for suitable midfielders from the existing players to take on the role of the team’s “new core” in the upcoming training camp, and search for playmakers for forwards like Wu Lei and Zhang Yuning.
It is understood that the team’s training content on August 25th will have a significant adjustment compared to the previous two days. This training session will include local attacking and defensive drills, as well as group confrontation training within a half-field area.
The media also revealed that Ivanković acknowledged in discussions with his colleagues that China currently lacks a maestro-level midfielder like Luka Modric, but the team can still achieve synergy through overall play. As for who will deliver passes to Wu Lei, Zhang Yuning, and other forwards, the national team coaching staff will seek answers based on the recent training sessions.
In fact, the current national team’s primary midfielders are Li Yuanyi, Huang Zhengyu, Wang Shangyuan, Jiang Shenglong, and newcomer Wang Haijian. If the team needs tactical adjustments, Wei Zhen and Xie Wen can also play as defensive midfielders.
Additionally, the coaching staff has invited several wingers with speed or breakthrough advantages for this training camp, such as Lin Liangming, Xie Wen, and Xu Haoyang, all of whom are considered by Ivanković to be capable of providing assists to the forwards.
