Japan Olympic Team Officially Explains Matsuoka’s Exclusion: Possible Transfer May Prevent Participation

When asked about several players who were not selected, including Matsuoka, head coach Iwao Oiwa expressed reluctance to discuss players who were not on the roster, emphasizing: “It is not because there are issues with Matsuoka’s performance.”

“There’s a possibility of Matsuoka transferring, but the main reason is that we cannot ensure his participation in the Olympics,” added Japan national team director Yamamoto Masakuni.

Matsuoka Kusei currently plays for Tokyo FC. In this year’s U23 Asian Cup, he helped the Japanese Olympic team win the championship and scored against China in the group stage.
