During the China vs. Japan match at the 2024 Asian Junior Badminton Championships, 17-year-old Zhang Zhijie suddenly collapsed. He was rushed to the hospital but unfortunately passed away.
Zhang Zhijie was born in Jiaxing in January 2007. He won the 15-year-old boys singles title at the 2022 National U-Series Badminton Championships U15-17 Finals, the 2023 National Youth Badminton Championships Group B boys singles title, the 2023 World Junior Badminton Championships men’s singles title, and the 2024 Dutch Junior Badminton International Grand Prix title.
