Korean media: Former Shanghai Shenhua manager Poyet is a candidate for the South Korean national team manager

July 2, according to Yonhap News Agency reporters, the technical director of the Korea Football Association, Lee Im-seong, will depart for Europe today to meet with two candidates for the national team manager. It is understood that the two candidates are German manager Wagner and Uruguayan manager Poyet.

On June 28, Jung Hae-seong, chairman of the Power Reinforcement Committee, announced his resignation. Without forming a new committee, the association entrusted the new national team manager position to the technical director.

Until the end of last month, some domestic coaches were listed as hot candidates, among which Graham Arnold, the current Australian coach, is quickly becoming a hot topic. However, among domestic candidates, former interim manager Kim Doo-hoon explicitly refused, and Ulsan HD manager Hong Myung-bo also sent a signal to the association, saying that “if there is a better candidate than me, I will not be mentioned”. Graham is about to lead Australia into the third stage of World Cup qualifying, and the possibility of a temporary change of coach is almost non-existent.

Korean media reports that among the other two main candidates, Wagner has a shorter coaching career and has only been involved in the club scene, which is disappointing; while the Uruguayan Poyet has a leading experience in coaching clubs. He has not only coached in Europe but also coached Chinese Super League team Shanghai Shenhua, and has also led Greece in the pre-selection of major events.
