On July 2, 2024, the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) officially announced through its website that the Chinese Football Association (CFA) has been awarded the AFC Grassroots Football Charter Gold Member.
The AFC Grassroots Football Charter is the AFC’s primary working framework for promoting grassroots football among its 47 member associations. It was officially launched in 2018 and the CFA was certified as a Silver Member by the AFC in the same year. In June 2022, the CFA officially launched the application process for the AFC Grassroots Football Charter Gold Member.
The AFC mentioned in its official release that under the strong support of the Chinese government, the CFA’s long-term strategic plans for developing grassroots football have been impressive, and its work is highly aligned with the AFC’s grassroots football development values.
CFA President Song Kai said: “Being awarded the AFC Grassroots Football Charter Gold Member is a significant milestone in the development of Chinese grassroots football. It is both an encouragement and a spur for the CFA. Grassroots football is the soil for football development, and the foundation of football lies in the grassroots, in every ordinary person who loves and participates in football. In the future, the CFA will continue to leverage the diverse value functions of grassroots football in education, health, culture, and life, allowing more people and more young people to participate in football in a safe and enjoyable environment. It will also continue to learn from international experience, play its role in nurturing elite football, cultivate grassroots football, contribute to the construction of a healthy China and a strong sports nation, and make greater contributions to the Asian grassroots football family!”
After the CFA was awarded the AFC Grassroots Football Charter Gold Member, there are currently 8 Grassroots Football Charter Gold Members in the AFC, including Australia, Japan, Korea and Qatar.
