On July 11, Sint-Truiden officially announced the signing of Japanese Olympic goalkeeper Reo Kubo.
Kubo, 23, came through the youth ranks at Kashiwa Reysol and transferred to Benfica in 2019. He was promoted to the first team in July 2023 but did not make any appearances. At international level, Kubo represented Japan U23 in winning this year’s U23 Asian Cup and was also included in the Japan Olympic team’s squad for the Paris Olympics.
Sint-Truiden currently has another Japanese goalkeeper, Ayane Suzuki, who is reportedly about to join Parma. Due to the Japanese investment background of Sint-Truiden, the team has a large number of Japanese elements. In addition to Suzuki, the team also has four other Japanese players. Another Japanese international defender, Shogo Taniguchi, is also expected to join Sint-Truiden this summer.
