After the end of last season, Celtic’s starting goalkeeper Joe Hart announced his retirement, making the search for a new goalkeeper a top priority for manager Brendan Rodgers in this summer’s transfer window. 37-year-old Schmeichel is currently a free agent, his contract with Anderlecht expiring at the end of June. There had been rumors of him moving to Saudi Arabia, but the Danish goalkeeper is currently more inclined to join his former manager Rodgers in the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic have offered Schmeichel a one-year contract with an option to extend.
