Football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his social media that Scottish Premiership side Celtic are set to sign Denmark captain Kasper Schmeichel on a one-year deal with an option to extend.

Romano: Celtic to sign Kasper Schmeichel on a one-year deal

After the end of last season, Celtic’s starting goalkeeper Joe Hart announced his retirement, making the search for a new goalkeeper a top priority for manager Brendan Rodgers in this summer’s transfer window. 37-year-old Schmeichel is currently a free agent, his contract with Anderlecht expiring at the end of June. There had been rumors of him moving to Saudi Arabia, but the Danish goalkeeper is currently more inclined to join his former manager Rodgers in the Scottish Premiership.

Celtic have offered Schmeichel a one-year contract with an option to extend. It looks like this will be a shrewd acquisition for Celtic, as Schmeichel has continued to show good form in this year’s European Championship. Additionally, his experience working with Rodgers will make it easier for him to integrate into the team and adapt to the tactics.

Schmeichel has made 479 appearances for Leicester City, being a key player in their Premier League title win. This could be Schmeichel’s final contract as a player, and he will be looking to emulate Joe Hart’s success at Celtic.
