Following his participation in the “MMCA Play: Youth Five-a-Side Football” competition, renowned Korean footballer Park Ji-sung gave an interview where he discussed the current state of Korean football and the controversial appointment of Hong Myung-bo. He expressed his deep disappointment.
Addressing the recent appointment of the national team’s head coach, Park Ji-sung remarked: “This is an indescribable tragedy. Right now, the system of Korean football has completely collapsed. We should have followed the right appointment procedures, but ultimately we failed to do so.”
“I’m deeply saddened. In the 2002 World Cup, we achieved a monumental feat. We had hoped for similar miracles to happen in the future, but looking at the current situation, it’s very unlikely. The last time I felt optimistic about Korean football was five months ago.”
“I believe working for the Football Association is something every footballer would aspire to. But now, it seems everyone is shying away. Trust in Korean football has dwindled, and I think restoring it will take a long time. Therefore, we need to be honest and move forward with a solid foundation.”
