On July 9th, multiple media outlets reported that Turkish giants Besiktas have entered advanced talks with Argentina international Ángel Di Maria regarding contract details. The “Angel” is expected to join the Turkish league, with the transfer being officially announced after the Copa América.

Spanish newspaper AS was the first to report on Di Maria’s potential move, followed by Portuguese newspaper Record and Turkish sports publication Fanatik.

It’s understood that Besiktas has offered Di Maria, who is now a free agent, a one-year contract worth €5 million annually, and is pushing hard to secure the transfer.

Besiktas aims to bolster their squad with high-profile additions during the summer transfer window, aiming to challenge Galatasaray’s title position next season. Aside from Di Maria, the “Black Eagles” have also contacted Lazio’s Ciro Immobile.

36-year-old Di Maria’s contract with Benfica expired on June 30th. He is currently with the Argentina national team, competing in the Copa América in the United States. On July 10th, Argentina will face Canada in the Copa América semi-finals.
