Son Says Fernandes Lacks Leadership Qualities: “He Gave Up Early When Man United Were Losing”

Liverpool legend Graeme Souness has once again criticized Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes for lacking leadership qualities.

Souness said: “When you look at leaders in modern football, and Manchester United is an example, one of the biggest clubs in world football, their captain is Bruno Fernandes. A few seasons ago when they were 3-0 down against Liverpool, he just gave up, and now he’s the captain. No matter what is happening on the pitch, he should be involved and passionate about helping his teammates.”

“I don’t think Fernandes can change that side of him, because that’s his personality. He always shrugs his shoulders, throws his arms up, looks impatiently at the sky or sulks. He only does that when the team is struggling. I think leaders in modern football often choose to hide themselves. They don’t want to expose themselves, they don’t want to take responsibility, they don’t want to stand up and take the blame. A recent example is the European Championships.”

Previously, Souness said that Fernandes “goes missing” in big games, and after the last match, he said he was “clearly not a leader”.
