Everton are preparing to offer young centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite a bumper new contract in a bid to ward off interest from Manchester United, according to The Mirror.
The 22-year-old England international has been linked with a move to Old Trafford this summer, despite the Red Devils’ recent acquisition of 18-year-old centre-back, Omari
Previous reports suggested that Branthwaite had agreed personal terms with United, with his wages set to increase from £40,000 to £160,000 a week.
However, a transfer has been stalled as the two clubs remain at odds over the player’s fee. Everton are demanding a whopping £70m, while Manchester United have only offered £40m plus add-ons.
In a bid to compensate for the potential financial loss Branthwaite may face by not joining Manchester United, Everton have prepared a lucrative new contract that would encourage him to stay at Goodison Park.
Branthwaite has also previously expressed his desire to stay at Everton, telling reporters: “I think for any young lad, any young player, the most important thing is to play as many games as possible to get the experience that you need.”
